Dentistry today has a choice of using a variety of metals, plastics
and porcelain materials that were not available twenty years
ago. On one hand, one may call this progress, but on the other
hand, this may be the worst thing that has ever happened. Because
of the variety of metals, etc., a battery effect on the electrical
current is generated in the mouth that can cause headaches, fatigue
problems, not to mention other similar symptoms related to chronic
fatigue.
The biologic dentist approaches the patient as a concerned
person. In the last twenty years there has been a great deal
of clinical reporting regarding the influence dentistry has had
on the rest of the body. Through the electronic media, whether
it be TV or computers, the dentist is no longer limited to the
so-called [prestigious journals] printed in this country. Today
there is a very important scientific global community that is
available to the dentist; free from politics.
The biological dentist is interested in the heavy metal toxicity
studies coming from the U.S., Australia, Germany and Canada involving
the mercury silver filling issue. In Japan, we have the advancements
made in nutrition such as nutrients Coenzyme Q10 to the manufacture
of composites and plastic restorative materials. The biologic
dentist is concerned with the electrical currents created in
the mouth and its effect on the immune systems. Most of the work
has come from Germany and Sweden. In the understanding of the
signs and symptoms that a patient may report at their first visit,
the biologic dentist understands that if a patient has a complaint
of sensitivity of a tooth or has a chronic sinus infection, the
conventional x-rays that are used may not give the diagnosis.
The biologic dentist knows that the teeth are connected to the
brain and the brain controls the entire body. Knowing this information
is one thing, treating a patient with this in mind is another.
This is what a biologic dentist is. For example, if a new
patient comes into the office for the first time and has had
several opinions on how to repair the mouth, usually there is
the issue of money, but the interesting point is the more educated
the patient becomes regarding the mouth, the less money becomes
the issue.
There are basic standard procedures such as complete full
mouth x-rays of all the teeth and jaw bone. These x-rays give
the dentist information such as presence of decay, bone infection,
periodontal disease or bone loss, the presence of root canals,
foreign objects or impacted teeth in the bone. the biologic dentist
realizes that the x-rays are only two dimensions. This means,
although everything looks good in the x-ray, infection still
may be present around the teeth and bone that cannot be seen.
For example, looking at a balloon, one cannot see the other side
unless one rotates the balloon or moves to the other side of
the balloon. The biologic dentist knows this and is very aware
that if you don't see infection in the x-rays, there is still
the possibility of infection present. There are other tests available
that are not being taught in the dental schools in this country
that have been used for many years with clinical significance
[clinical significance] in other countries such as kinesiology,
neurotherapy, electrodermal testing, (EAV) darkfield blood testing,
DMPS challenge tests, and bioresonance (Acuscope Therapy). The
biologic dentist is familiar with the uses of these tests in
conjunction with the conventional tests considered part of the
standard of care set up by the State Board of Governors of the
Dental Profession.
The biologic dentist, when examining the new patient is also
looking at jaw balance. This is called biophysical. If this patient
is in dental stress there are several series of tests that help
evaluate the posturing of the teeth, jaws and temporomandibular
joints. The tests range from sonography (electrovibrographics),
electromyography (EMG), magnetic jaw imaging (jaw tracking),
physiological swallow reflex and neuromuscular deprogramming
of the bite. The biologic dentist is concerned about the use
of allopathic drugs and homeopathic therapy. The biologic dentist
also understands the possibility of preventing nerve damage of
teeth and the biocompatability of dental materials used in the
mouth. These are special priority issues that a biologic dentist
is concerned with.
In conclusion, there are three basic approaches the biologic
dentist considers - bioelectrical balance, biochemical balance
and biophysical balance. Each area has its own test and guidelines.
The three basic approaches must be considered at the same time
of treatment. If there is a biophysical imbalance such as chewing
on one side of the mouth or having a bite contact two or three
times greater on one side of the mouth, the electrical readings
of the teeth will not be accurate. If the biochemical balance
of the patient is not correct, the patient will never stabilize.
So the big three: biochemical, bioelectrical and biophysical
must be studied. There is one more dimension or the fourth that
cannot be eliminated and that is the emotional state of the person.
Without all four considerations, the patient will never completely
get well.
